Whenever a crisis hits, it feels sudden and devastating. It shows up like a bolt out of the blue. Yet most of the time, small signals were already there. We just ignored them.
Life always leaves subtle clues — a shift in tone at work, a change in someone’s behavior, a string of small inconveniences that don’t feel connected until they stack. By noticing these early signals, we can anticipate what’s coming instead of being blindsided by it.
Sometimes the smartest move isn’t to fight the circumstances. It’s to recognize that the ground is shifting and accept it might not be the right time or place to stay rooted. As the old saying goes, “Man is not the creature of circumstances, circumstances are the creatures of man.” When we pay attention, life reveals where we should lean in and where we should step away.
This is also where many people slip into catastrophizing — imagining the worst outcome and assuming it’s guaranteed. When you feel that happening, ask yourself a few distance-creating questions.
What advice would I give a close friend in the same situation?
What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?
These simple questions pull you out of panic and back into agency.
Another way to avoid emotional spirals is to build a safety net you can rely on. Not as an escape plan, but as a foundation that keeps you steady when the world feels uncertain. For some, that means savings. For others, skills. For many today, it includes understanding new forms of digital assets.
That’s why I started learning about cryptocurrency. When I first arrived in the US more than a decade ago, an alumnus from my school told me, “You should look into Bitcoin.” It was 2015. Bitcoin was under $300. He said, “Buy a few just for fun.” I didn’t listen. If I had, I would’ve been a millionaire.
The point isn’t regret. It’s awareness.
Life whispers before it shouts.
If you’re in a season where the clues are getting louder, consider strengthening your mindset before anything else. The storms don’t stop — but you get stronger.

It won’t solve your challenges for you. But it will help you meet them with clarity, courage, and stability. Which, in the end, is the only safety net that lasts.
